The magical, isolated Cocos Island lies 260 miles off the coast of Costa Rica in the Pacific. It is the world's largest uninhabited island rich with lush jungle, cries of tropical birds and cascading waterfalls. A remote underwater pinnacle is a one-of-a-kind dive adventure surrounded by a bustling oasis of marine life. Glide amid schools of hammerheads, white tip sharks and the elusive whale shark, watch the silent ballet of giant manta rays or be dazzled by the sheer numbers of schooling fish. Don't forget study the life on the seafloor—spiny lobster, stingrays, marbled rays, goat fish, eels and array of reef fish are all around. The trip out to this diver's dream takes 32-36 hours from Puntarenas each way so bring a good book to relax with as the luxury liveaboards take you away to an adventure on Cocos Island. Experienced divers only please. All trips are for eleven nights with seven full days of diving. 4993 views |

www.pestivideo.de Nachttauchgang Cocos Island - Costa Rica.

Sea Hunter - Costa Rica
![]() ![]() ![]() |
The Sea Hunter is 36m long and accommodates 18 passengers in nine spacious cabins, each with private baths and full en-suite facilities. This liveaboard was built specifically for long-distance diving operations, making it ideal for the rigours of visiting Cocos and its oceanic ‘neighbour’, Malpelo Island. I have been on this ship in 8m seas, and while the 30-hour journey was hardly comfortable, I was secure in the knowledge that the Sea Hunter’s steel hull was built to contend with even worse conditions.
It is a heavy-duty liveaboard for heavy-duty diving. Instead of using RIBs, it carries two speedy ‘pangas’, fibreglass dive skiffs that are lowered into the Pacific by a 12-tonne deck crane. The dive deck is the most spacious I have ever seen, with enough dedicated camera space to deal with all the guests having state-of-the-art systems. Inside, there is a dedicated diving area, with diner-style booths and a buffet system; a spacious lounge with comfortable seating for all and a computer/imaging room for photographers. Everything is immaculately maintained by the Costa Rican crew, and the dive guides are among the most capable I have ever met.
If there is a criticism of the Sea Hunter, it lies perhaps in the overall feel of the vessel. It is a perfect example of a sturdy, working dive platform with luxury fittings for a well-heeled clientele. However, it retains the feel of a working ship: it is impressive, but lacks charm. Still, who wants charm when you can have a submarine? That’s right – a submarine! The Sea Hunter is currently operating DeepSee, a custom-built sub capable of taking one pilot and two passengers down to 1,500m. Equipped with a high-definition camera, sub-to-surface communications and an array of HID lights, this is the ultimate diver’s toy – and this one isn’t languishing unused on the back on a billionaire’s yacht.
Itineraries: Cocos and Malpelo, the two most productive hammerhead sites in the world, but also the most remote. Expect to see mobula rays, immense schools of snapper and jacks, manta rays and more white-tip reef sharks than you could ever count. Both sites are isolated oceanic seamounts, but Malpelo is so exposed that the Sea Hunter only visits it for a few months in the first half of the year.
