The prizes and trophies will be presented for winning images on Sunday 17th May at 2pm in the British Underwater Image Festival theatre, housed in the clubhouse at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park, Cornwall.

REGISTRATION

Divers who wish to take part in the Splash–in competition must register in advance. The registration desk will be open on Friday 15th May between 7pm and 10pm in the BUIF theatre on the first floor of the Pentewan Sands Holiday Park clubhouse. Registration will open again on Saturday morning between 7am and 10am also in the BUIF theatre.

SPLASH IN CATEGORIES

Photographers can enter their photographs into three categories, Wide Angle, Macro and Fish Portrait. Entrants may enter a maximum of two images into each category.

RULES

Competitors must register their names either on the Friday night or Saturday morning. They will also be asked to take a photograph of a BUIF Splash In card and demonstrate that their memory card is empty.

Competitors may take as many images as they wish on their registered memory card. The images may be taken on any camera and in any format but entries must be entered in JPEG format.

The desk for accepting images will be open in the BUIF theatre on the Saturday evening between 5pm and 8pm.

Competitors may download the images to their own computers first to check quality and to perform any whole image optimisation.

Manipulation is restricted to colour correction, brightness, contrast, sharpening and cropping. The BUIF judges reserve the right to examine untouched images.

Original, unchanged images must be kept on the card until 4pm on Sunday 17th May.

Images must be submitted in JPEG format at a maximum size of 1024 pixels wide (landscape) or 768 pixels high (portrait). Resolution must be 72 dpi. If downloaded straight from a card the images will be resized and rotated as applicable in Photoshop by the organisers. File names should comprise the photographers name and the category, eg. ‘JSmithWideAngle1 or JSmithMacro2, etc.

Competitors may submit their images directly from their memory card with the relevant download cable, or they may copy them onto a USB key or portable hard drive. If the images are on the competitor's laptop they may bring their laptop and the organisers will copy them onto a USB key.

The images will be judged on Saturday evening and the winning three images of each category will be presented at the end of the British Underwater Image Festival presentation and trophy giving ceremony that starts at 2pm on Sunday 17th May.

BUIF reserves the right to publish winning images in DIVE magazine and on the website. Winning images may be used in future to promote the BUIF splash–in. Publication of winning photos for promotion of the event are royalty free, but copyright remains with the photographer.

PRIZES

The winner of each of the three categories will receive a trophy and voucher from Canon/Cameras Underwater. The runner-up of each of the three categories will also receive a trophy and voucher from Canon/Cameras Underwater. Third place of each of the three categories will receive a certificate and DIVE magazine goody bag.
