Sharm sites closed after shark attacks

Dive sites have been closed for 24 hours around Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, after three shark attacks on snorkellers in the area. The attacks took place on local reefs north of Sharm – all three snorkellers have been hospitalised, and one is in a critical condition.

A team of divers have found the wrecks of two of Sir Frances Drake's ships off the coast of Panama. The Elizabeth and the Delight were scuttled by their crews in 1596, after Drake himself died of dysentery.

Kernow divers raise money for charity

Divers in Cornwall have raised £2,800 for the Diving Diseases Research Centre (DDRC) at the annual Kernow Diving Festival. Members of the Federation of Kernow Dive Clubs visited the Hyperbaric Medical Centre in Plymouth to present the cheque to the charity.

A rare dwarf sperm whale has been spotted in Cornwall, in what's believed to be the first sighting of the species in the UK. The whale was seen in Mounts Bay where it beached itself and was rescued by members of the public.

A cargo of 200 tonnes of silver is to be salvaged from a British wreck off the coast of Ireland. If the whole cargo is salvaged, thought to be worth £150 million, it will be the largest precious metal cargo ever recovered from the sea.

Plymouth divers swim with dolphin

Divers in Plymouth have spent the weekend swimming with a bottlenose dolphin. The wild dolphin was first seen on Friday, in Plymouth Sound, and then joined the divers on a wreck on Saturday and on a shore dive on Sunday.
