BSAC's coveted Heinke Trophy has been won by Clidive, a London-based dive club.
The trophy rewards the club who has done the most for its members and to further the interests of BSAC.
'The adjudicators were very impressed by Clidive's entry in particular,' said adjudicator Phil Harrison. 'It explained that the branch had very clear goals and a structure to achieve them, comprehensive communications via the web and e-mails and a thorough diving and training programme including well- documented expeditions. They dived varied sites and catered for different levels of diver and have a wide range of kit, which was used effectively.'
Certificates of commendation were also awarded to Dublin University Sub Aqua Club and Mansfield 735 BSAC who Harrison said both showed high levels of achievement during the year.
Clidive's chairman Warwick Mason said the club was absolutely delighted to have won the trophy. 'We wanted to enter last year because it was our 40th anniversary and we felt our dive programme and the training we had offered had been truly extraordinary,' he said. 'I'm pleased that what we achieved in 2009 has been recognised on a national level.'
