BUIF 2010 is now open for
entries from underwater photographers
and film-makers.
Winner - Open: Keri Wilk
Winner - Digital Compact: Martin Greaves
Winner - British: Robert Bailey
Winner - Portfolio: Fredrik Ehrenstrom
Thousands of pounds worth of prizes
will be up for grabs in seven stills categories and three film categories. Last year, BUIF received more than 1,000 entries from photographers in more than 20 countries around the world.
Award-winning underwater photographer Alex Mustard, DIVE's editor Simon Rogerson, co-founder of the British Society of Underwater Photographers Colin Doeg and celebrated British photographer Charles Hood, will judge the stills competition. The films will be judged by BBC natural history film-maker Peter Scoones, Simon Rogerson and Colin Doeg.
Rogerson said: 'Last year the judges
had the challenge of choosing between some amazing photographs in BUIF's
stills competition, and I am hoping to see even more for the 2010 festival. Whether you're shooting fish, shipwrecks, sharks, dolphins or divers, if it's underwater and looks good, we'd like to see it.
'This is a free contest - there's no charge to enter, but there will be some impressive prizes, to be announced shortly. I am especially looking forward to seeing the entries for the UK category, as this section turned up some real talent last year.
'Next month, DIVE is running a special feature on how to succeed at underwater photo competitions - it's being written by one of my co-judges, Alex Mustard, so expect lots of insider advice. My message is to get your prints looking as beautiful as possible, and get those entries in.'
The winners will be announced at Dive Fest, which is being held at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park in Cornwall from
30 April to 3 May 2010. All images and video that are shortlisted will be on display at Dive Fest, and there will also be a Splash-In competition where underwater photographers will compete to get the
best shots over the weekend.
Shortlisted images will also go on display at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. The closing date for entries
is 20 March 2010.
