A diver missing in Tees Bay off the northeast coast of England was rescued after a ship spotted his emergency strobe light.
The man, who is from Hartlepool, failed to surface near the dive boat, which raised the alarm at 9pm on Tuesday evening. Four RNLI lifeboats from Redcar and Hartlepool and an RAF helicopter were launched to search for him.
The diver had been on the surface for 30 minutes before a ship spotted his emergency strobe light. A lifeboat was also able to see him, and brought him aboard, three miles northeast of Hartlepool. The diver was unharmed.
Dave Cocks of Redcar RNLI said: 'If it hadn't been for the very prompt turnout by the RNLI lifeboats, the diver having the right emergency equipment and the crew of the ship, the Norsky, being particularly vigilant, it could well have been a very different outcome.'
