A new world underwater ironing record has been set at the National Diving and Activity Centre in Gloucestershire as 128 divers braved water temperatures of around 5ºC.

The previous Australian record for 72 in the water was broken, as 86 British divers dived to depths of between 55m and 6m to iron clothes simultaneously within a ten-minute period.
Organised by Gareth Lock, Morag Ward and John Turnock of Yorkshire Divers, the divers raised more than £6,000 for the RNLI from the record attempt.
'Divers covered the full range, from technical diving with trimix to 55m to the shallow end at 6m by freedivers,' said Lock. 'Water temperatures were in the region of 5ºC and air temperatures as low as -2ºC.'
