Compact camera guru Paul Duxfield believes most people can get great image results even with the simplest of equipment.
More divers than ever are taking a giant stride into underwater photography following a mass boom in housed digital compact cameras. But can the everyday point-and-shoot deliver SLR quality? Compact camera guru Paul Duxfield believes most people can get great image results even with the simplest of equipment. In the first of a series of features, he looks at particular techniques to get the best from an underwater compact, see page 78. The 43-year-old started out as a camera assistant in the Red Sea before moving behind stills and video cameras himself in the late 1990s. Following five years working as a dive guide and videographer at the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh, he returned to the UK to work at London-based Cameras Underwater. Now well established in the underwater photography scene, 'Duxy' has become a popular speaker at dive clubs and shows.
