A kite-surfer has been killed by sharks in Florida. Stephen Schafer, 38, was kite-surfing near Stuart about 100 miles north of Miami when he was attacked by sharks.
Lifeguard Daniel Lund saw Schafer struggling in the water 500m from shore and went to his aid. He saw several sharks in the water and heard Schafer calling that he had been bitten.
Lund pulled Schafer onto a rescue board and paddled him back to the beach, but Schafer later died in hospital. This was the first fatal shark attack in Florida for five years.
Bites on Schafer's body are being examined to try to determine which species killed him.
