A tugboat is to be sunk at Stoney Cove this autumn as an attraction for divers. The boat will be sunk close to the wreck of the Stanegarth in an area of the lake that is 18-20m deep.
The Dutch-built tug has been bought by Stoney Cove from a company in Newcastle who are currently carrying out work on it before delivering it to the inland dive site in Leicestershire. Managers at the dive site do not yet know the date the boat will be arriving.
Robert Crouch, director at Stoney Cove, said: 'It's taken us about nine months to find a suitable boat. It's a little bit smaller than the Stanegarth. It's difficult to find something safe for divers, that offers access holes big enough and plenty of headroom. We couldn't just take the first thing that came along.'
