Four Russian divers have been found alive after drifting in the sea for more than 24 hours. One of the divers managed to swim to shore, more than 95km from the site where they went missing.
A group of six divers from the M/Y Bohemia were diving at Little Brother Island in the southern Egyptian Red Sea on Monday (17 August) when four failed to return to the boat. The alarm was raised at 12.30pm local time and the military search and rescue division were called in to look for the divers.
The search had to be halted overnight, but resumed again on Tuesday. One of the divers was found on the shore 40km south of El Quseir this afternoon after drifting and swimming 95km in the waters between El Quseir and Marsa Alam.
The diver told officials that he was with the others until he decided to swim to shore. The search continued into the evening of 18 August for the remaining divers, with boats from El Quseir searching the south of the area and those from Port Ghalib searching to the north.
The three remaining divers were found by a boat and have been taken by ambulance to El Quseir Hospital.
