Seven shore divers were rescued after they were caught in strong tides off Porthgwarra near Lands End last week
Walkers alerted the coastguard that the divers, who were from Liverpool, were in difficulty and calling for help a quarter of a mile from the coast.
Rescue teams reached the area within ten minutes and commenced a search for the divers. Sennen Cove RNLI inshore lifeboat found five divers and took them on board. Two others were found on rocks by a rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and were picked up by the lifeboat.
Falmouth Coastguard watch manager Marc Thomas said: 'These divers were fortunate that the walkers spotted them and reported their plight to us, and that we were able to get rescue resources to them so quickly. The currents in that particular area are strong and it is easy to be swept away. Since they were already at Lands End, their next stop, if they had not been rescued so swiftly, would have been the Isles of Scilly.'
He advised less experienced shore divers to dive in more sheltered and less tidal conditions.
