The southeast corner of South Australia is as porous as Swiss cheese. This subterranean world of limestone sinkholes and winding caverns has become a magnet for cave divers and those in search of a different sort of dive. Near the town of Mount Gambier, ultra-clear water bubbles from ancient aquifers into Ewans Pond Conservation Park, creating submerged versions of well-manicured English gardens. There are lily forests and geometric hedgerows of grasses. The ponds are a dynamic and peaceful world, where powerful Australian light makes the underwater landscapes pulsate with shimmering shades of green.
