Richard King and Laura Hooper were on a dive boat when they saw the event. They say the dive boat operators asked them not to speak of what they saw as it would affect tourism in the resort.
‘We couldn't believe it when there were people swimming in the water the next day,’ King told The Sun. ‘There was no mention of sharks in the water or a dead body.’
The couple say they cut their holiday short after the encounter.
Dr Adel Tahir, director of the Hyperbaric Medical Centre in Sharm El Sheikh, examined the victim and said she had died by drowning and had sustained injuries from the propeller of a boat.
‘Small to medium sized marine creatures also nibbled at the cadaver which is to be expected for any organic matter that has been submerged for four days,’ said a statement from Egypt’s Chamber of Diving and Water Sports (CDWS). ‘No signs of shark attack could be identified on the body, for example semi-circular bite marks or shark teeth marks.’
There was no indication that the victim was a diver.
