For ruggedness, the suit has been externally laminated with ‘Diamond-Tuff’ nylon. All external seams are taped and the knees have been fitted with Kevlar patches to prevent abrasion. The manufacturer offers a lifetime guarantee on all seams and workmanship.
The left thigh supports a generous Velcro-fastened cargo pocket complete with small stainless-steel D-ring.
For added safety, there is a small reflective patch on the right shoulder.
In practice, the cross-chest zip works well when putting on and taking off the suit on your own, but the diameter of the base of the neck seal makes it a struggle to get over your head.
The XCD2 appeared to be well made and the material was fairly flexible, considering that it’s a compressed neoprene suit. The combination of the neoprene neck seal and latex wrist seals works extremely well, and if the neck problem were solved, this would be a great suit for the price.
Verdict: good all-round suit for rummaging around in wrecks, but not as flexible as some others
